Middle Grades English 5–9 (014)
The Middle Grades English 5–9 subject area examination is divided into two sections: a multiple-choice section and a written performance section. Each section is independently administered, scored, and reported. Any unused time on one section cannot be used toward the other section. Once you complete a section and proceed to the next section, you cannot return to the previous section. You must pass both sections independently in order to pass the Middle Grades English 5–9 subject area examination.
Registration Information
Starting February 28, 2023, you are no longer required to take both sections of this exam in your first attempt. You can split the sections into two appointments of one section each or take both sections in one appointment.
When registering, you must create a separate registration for each testing appointment. For example, to split the sections into two appointments, you must create two registrations, each with one section.
The sections selected on a registration cannot be changed. If you have a current registration for this examination but want to take the sections separately, you will need to cancel your current registration and create two registrations, one for each section.
